5-HTP 100 mg - part of your evening routine and internal balance
According to an article published in Nutrition Review, serotonin is sometimes described as a neurotransmitter linked to mood and diurnal rhythm. Although the data on 5-HTP is mixed, many people choose this ingredient as a supplement to their daily routine to support calmness and restful comfort.

5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) is a precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin and is made from tryptophan. Tryptophan is first converted to 5-HTP by the enzyme tryptophan hydroxylase, and then 5-HTP is converted to serotonin by the enzyme L-amino acid decarboxylase. In supplement form, it has many different names, including Griffonia plant seed extract, Griffonia simplicifolia and oxytryptan.
5-HTP is sometimes chosen as part of a routine when you care about:
- Evening calmness and restful comfort,
- Maintaining a sense of inner balance,
- Supporting habits that promote a calmer end to the day,
SSRIs work not by increasing the production of serotonin, but by preserving the serotonin that is already in the brain, preventing the enzymatic degradation of synaptic serotonin. Because of possible interactions, 5-HTP should not be combined with drugs and substances that affect the serotonergic system - if in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist for supplementation.(research)
Scientific data on 5-HTP is inconclusive and depends on dose, duration of use and individual conditions, among other factors.
In general, it appears safe for most adults when taken orally in doses of up to 400 milligrams per day for up to one year. (research)
However, there are some potential side effects of 5-HTP that should be kept in mind, such as indigestion and stomach problems, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, fatigue and lethargy, muscle cramps and dysfunction.
Also, be sure not to combine 5-HTP with drugs and substances that affect serotonin levels (including some antidepressants, tranquilizers and other preparations with serotonergic effects).
