AAKG – facts and myths
AAKG, or L-arginine alpha-ketoglutarate, is a dietary supplement that is popular among physically active people striving to build muscle mass. Many of them dream of achieving better and better results that will translate into visual effects. Using some preparations before training is a way to increase exercise capacity and develop muscles. What is AAKG, how does it work and what are the most popular facts and myths about it?
AAKG - what is this supplement?
L-arginine alpha-ketoglutarate is a chemical compound that has the ability to increase the secretion of nitric oxide in the human body. This, in turn, translates into dilation of blood vessels and faster transport of oxygen and various substances to the muscles. As a result, they are provided with better conditions for growth. In addition, you can count on acceleration of regenerative processes. AAKG is known as a popular pre-workout supplement. Consumption before training provides a highly desirable muscle pump effect, making exercises much more effective. To obtain satisfactory results, it is best to take the supplement 20-30 minutes before starting activity.
AAKG also works by accelerating the process of removing toxins. As a result, the body tires slower and we can exercise longer. People using this supplement have more energy and strength. What else is worth mentioning? L-arginine alpha-ketoglutarate has a positive effect on the secretion and activity of certain anabolic and regenerative hormones, including IGF-1, i.e. insulin-like growth factor, and GH, i.e. growth hormone. It also contributes to the increase in muscle mass.
AAKG operation - facts and myths
Like other supplements, there are many facts and myths surrounding AAKG. They cause some people to give up taking the supplement, even though it could bring many positive effects. What then is true and what theses should be rejected?
Myth No. 1 - AAKG should only be used before training.
As already mentioned, L-arginine alpha-ketoglutarate is known as a pre-workout supplement. Most people take a supplement just before starting training. However, this does not mean that this is its only use. If we want to enhance the effect of the muscle pump, it is best to take the dose before starting the exercise, but if we want to speed up the regeneration processes, AAKG will also be useful after the exercise. It is also a way to increase glucose bioavailability.
Fact No. 1 - AAKG can have a positive impact on health.
The supplement does not have to be identified only with a preparation intended for the development of muscle mass. AAKG has many valuable properties thanks to which we are able to take care of our health. Accelerating the excretion of toxins from the body contributes to better functioning of the liver and kidneys. Another issue is that as a result of the expansion of blood vessels, our muscles are better nourished. This translates into, among others: to improve sexual function and erection mechanism. In addition, the supplement can be used to support the cardiovascular system. It also helps maintain proper blood glucose levels, may improve tissue sensitivity to insulin and strengthen bones.
Myth No. 2 - The supplement is intended only for people who train strength and practice body sports.
Many people believe that preparations that increase the secretion of nitric oxide in the body will only work in strength or bodybuilding sports. This is, of course, a myth, because AAKG may also provide solid support for people practicing martial arts. In this case, it is worth using the preparation, especially after training, because it will contribute to cell multiplication and accelerate the muscle regeneration process. Moreover, due to the fact that the preparation affects the development of muscle mass, it will be useful in various fields of sports in the periods between starts. L-arginine alpha-ketoglutarate is used even by people practicing team sports.
Fact No. 2 - AAKG comes in various forms.
Many people have become accustomed to taking supplements in capsules, but this is not the only option. Nowadays, shots are becoming more and more popular. Inside there is a liquid containing active ingredients. What are the benefits of consuming AAKG in this form? First of all, faster operation. When choosing capsules, there will always be some delay. Another, more efficient option is powder. However, it requires you to prepare the solution yourself. Simply dissolve the appropriate portion in water and drink about 20 minutes before training. Capsules are the least troublesome solution. Due to longer absorption, they should usually be taken half an hour before planned exercise.
AAKG - dosage and additional information
The dosage of the supplement depends largely on body weight and level of advancement. It is assumed that you can take from 1 g to 5 g of the substance per day. To obtain the effect of a muscle pump, on training days it is recommended to consume the first dose approximately 30 minutes before training and the second dose immediately after completing exercise. The situation is different on non-training days. In this case, the first portion can be taken with the first meal, and the second one before going to bed. This dosage method affects, among others: to improve sleep quality.
It is worth remembering that the dosage of AAKG will differ for professional bodybuilders and ambitious amateurs who train several times a week at the gym. Supplementing this ingredient is especially recommended when, despite exercising, we do not see results in the form of greater muscle mass. Therefore, if we observe stagnation that makes us feel discouraged, it is worth reaching for L-arginine alpha-ketoglutarate. Long-term and regular consumption of the product is not recommended, but it may bring excellent results temporarily.
