Copper peptides - small molecules that your skin will love

They have been making a stir in the cosmetic market for quite some time. People with mature skin have come to love them for their anti-aging effects, teenagers' skin for their antibacterial properties, and owners of sensitive and demanding skin for their anti-inflammatory properties.

What is it all about? Copper peptides, of course, which are increasingly being added to all kinds of cosmetics.

What is copper peptide?

GHK-Cu, or just copper peptide, is a peptide isolated from human plasma as early as the 1970s. During the first studies, its excellent anti-inflammatory and wound healing effects were observed - wounds treated with the peptide healed much faster. That's why it was initially treated more in the category of medicine, and only later found its application in the beauty industry.

Copper peptides - action

Copper peptides, which are eagerly used today in cosmetics, work in many areas, helping not only skin, but also hair. What is their main action?

  • anti-aging,
  • antioxidant,
  • anti-inflammatory,
  • antimicrobial,
  • increasing skin density,
  • stimulating microcirculation,
  • detangling skin color.

It is worth adding at this point that copper peptides by themselves are not a panacea for wrinkles or sagging skin. Rather, they act as a stimulator or "messenger" that conveys vital information. In this particular case, this information is directed to the cells and organs of the body, and its effect is primarily increased collagen and elastin production.

Copper peptides - better than retinol?

Until recently, retinol - the active form of vitamin A - led the way in terms of anti-aging treatments. There is no denying that this substance gives sensational results on the skin, but it is not without its drawbacks. Retinol (especially at the beginning of use) can locally irritate the skin, causing redness and severe dryness. It is for this reason that retinol is recommended to be introduced gradually into one's skin care.

Thus, in the case of copper peptides, any adverse or allergic reaction is unlikely - it is an exceptionally gentle ingredient that has not shown any irritant tendencies in studies to date.

Copper peptides are also second to none when it comes to boosting collagen production; in clinical trials they have outperformed not only retinol, but also vitamin C in this regard. They are also said to be effective in stimulating hair growth and being used in hair loss treatments. Who knows, maybe soon copper peptides for hair will be even more popular than those used on the skin?

Copper peptides - how to apply?

Although cosmetics with copper peptides do not have irritating tendencies, it is good to know the general rules for their application. This will help you avoid minor mishaps, and - most importantly - increase the effects of your treatment.

  • never use cosmetics with copper peptides in the company of acids - they can significantly reduce their effectiveness,
  • apply peptide cosmetics always on thoroughly cleansed skin,
  • if you decide to use both a serum and a cream, it is best to apply the serum first and then the cream.
